OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. This results in increased bone fragility, as well as increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis can affect both men and women at any age, which is why our Endocrinology team experts provide various treatment methods for our patients.

No single cause for osteoporosis has been identified, however many risk factors have been established:

Uncontrollable Risk Factors:

  • Being over the age of 50

  • Being female

  • Menopause

  • Family history of osteoporosis

  • Low body weight

  • Broken bones or height loss

Controllable Risk Factors:

  • Not getting enough Calcium and Vitamin D

  • Not eating enough fruits and vegetables

  • Getting too much protein, sodium or caffeine

  • Having an inactive lifestyle

  • Smoking

  • Drinking too much alcohol
